Coco's Rules of Abundance

By James Young · September 21, 2026 · 5 min read

In brief

Coco's Rules of Abundance are the seven laws at the heart of Zen Master Coco and the Law of Attraction — a canine manifesto covering clarity, positioning, presence, gratitude, and the spiritual importance of naps.

Coco's Rules of Abundance are the seven foundational laws behind Zen Master Coco and the Law of Attraction. They are dog wisdom dressed as self-help — and, like most good satire, occasionally more useful than the real thing.

The Seven Rules

1. The treat cabinet is always full

Abundance is a belief before it is a fact. Coco has never once wondered whether the supply of treats had run out. The universe, in his experience, restocks.

2. Ask with your whole face

Half-hearted requests receive half-hearted treats. A signal must be unmistakable: eyes, posture, and one gently lifted paw, all saying the same thing.

3. Position beats pursuit

Coco does not chase the mail carrier carrying his packages. He waits by the door. Alignment with abundance is largely logistics.

4. The present moment smells like chicken

Regret has no smell and neither does worry. If you want to know whether you are aligned, check what your attention is sniffing right now.

5. Receive like it's the first time

Every treat is treated like the first treat. Gratitude is not a courtesy to the giver — it is how the receiver keeps the channel open.

6. Train the human gently

The master does not command. The master becomes the teaching. (See also: the signs your dog is training you.)

7. Nap is not laziness. Nap is integration.

All manifestation requires an incubation period. Coco integrates between two and four hours daily.

Where the rules come from

The Rules are the spine of the book: a warm, funny story in which a 15-pound Yorkie-Chihuahua named Coco teaches a class of neighborhood dogs — Biscuit, Luna, Tank, Pepper, and Waffles — to manifest treats, blankets, and belly rubs while quietly teaching their humans something real about attention, gratitude, and joy.
